painting tips + ideas

Paul Cezanne

be creative!

There are many ways of going about painting still life.

The most important stages are:

Choose a good composition, including near and far elements. Lead the eye in by having objects coming in from the sides, top or bottom. Try to avoid having objects dead centre or in a line.

Make a quality drawing, then paint it in using one colour. Observe the light source. Add a light tonal wash.

Add further colours from a limited palette. You could chose to concentrate on warm or cold colours.

Give it a style based upon other artists you have studied.
