be natural!
Giuseppe Penone creates sculptures by cutting back felled trees to discover the saplings within.
He was a member of the arte povera ('poor art') movement that started in Italy in the 1960s. These artists used basic, often natural materials to make their sculptures and installations. They wanted to move away from the tradtional materials such as oil paint, bronze and marble. In a time of economic and political instability, they tried to create a new kind of art that didn't have ties to the materials and styles of the past.
