be the next big thing!

Keep trying out new ideas and expanding your skills. Practice makes perfect. You will make plenty of mistakes, but these will give you new ideas too!

Display your work at school and at home. GIve it to friends and family as presents when you don't need it for coursework anymore - they will appreciate it much more than you think!

Most of the famous artists of the present and past didn't wait for fame and fortune to find them - they set up exhibitions in warehouses, small galleries, public spaces, bars, restaurants and cafés. Get together with your friends and set up your own artistic movement! The Internet offers a fantastic opportunity to display your artwork - either on the school website or on a Myspace or other site. Just remember to follow sensible precautions about not putting personal details online.

portraiture Painting portraits is fun and with practice becomes easier. Remember the lessons you have had on proportions and you won't go far wrong. Examples of portraits.

still-life Artists have painted and drawn still lifes for 100s of years. They are a good way to practice your skills, and unlike people, they sit very still for days. Examples of still life.

natural environment We are surrounded by some of the most beautiful scenery in the World. Take advantage of living in the Cairngorms and go out sketching and painting. Make sculptures from bits of wood, stones, pine cones and other natural objects you find. Take photos of interesting natural forms. Examples of landscapes and work based on the natural world.

built landscape Drawing buildings and built environments can be fun. Use the techniques of one and two point perspective you have learnt to help make them look more 3D. Examples of built environment work.

figure drawing + painting If you go to art college you will do a lot of figure drawing and painting. It is a great way to practice different technqiues and to understand the proportions of the body. Ask your family if you can draw them, maybe if they are going to be sitting still while watching TV or reading a book. Examples of figure drawing.

fantasy + imaginationArt is a fantastic way to explore your imagination and create fantastic creatures, strange environments and exaggerated or warped figures, maybe using unnatural colours. Examples of fantasy and imagination work.
