'higher visual arts' Grunfled "Buffalo Ostrich"(units only)

Paul Cezanne

be figurative!

The SQA has withdrawn Higher Visual Arts, however you can still get the units only by negotiation with the department.

These are exciting project-based Higher level units concentrating solely on the expressive side of the subject.

Lessons would mainly include drawing and painting figures and interior and exterior scenes. There are no essays and no written exam (at the end of the course pupils write up an evaluation of their work from notes).

Students will prepare:
a folio of drawings and paintings plus 1 or 2 final pieces of a figure/figures in interior or exterior settings.

This would be the perfect course for students wanting to prepare a strong folio for applying to art college or other arts courses. It would also be great for those who like the expressive side of art, but don't like design or written work.

It would suit students who have gained a credit grade at Standard Grade or who have already passed Int2 or Higher Art & Design. Pupils with strong drawing and painting skills, who may have not taken art + design at Standard Grade, but wish to return to the department, could be accepted onto the course following discussion with the art + design teachers and guidance.

You would be able to take Higher Visual Arts in either 5th or 6th year as well as taking Higher/Int2 Art and Design either the year after or the year before.

Higher Visual Arts can be taken at the same time as Advanced Higher Art and Design: Research and Appreciation in 6th year.
