Homework is issued by your teachers and the information must be written down in your sketchbook. You must do at least 30 minutes per week on the work that has been set, in order to to improve your skills.
If you would like to do extra work, and aren't sure on what would be best, we have listed extension ideas below:

Use your sketchbook to develop your skills and explore new ideas.
You should spend at least 30 minutes on each task.
The more time you spend, the more you will improve.
You can do the tasks in any order, one every week.
Each task is linked to themes explored in Standard Grade, Int 2 and Higher Art & Design
- Self-portrait in pencil
- Still life in pencil – bottles, cups, other round objects
- Landscape – view from a window
- Built environment – view down a local street
- Design a new cover for a book you have read
- Fantasy & imagination – draw a mythical creature
- Built environment – design a console game location
- Design a new typeface/font (minimum 10 letters)
- Figure composition – draw a friend or relative sitting down
- Drawing practice – make a tonal drawing of an egg
- Still life – any group of objects (3 or more) using only tone (no line)
- Design a new logo for the school with a mix of picture and text
- Still life – any group of objects (5 or more) using only line (no tone)
- Design a futuristic craft for a console game or movie
- Design a CD cover for a band/artist/DJ of your choice
- Re-design a logo for a branded product (e.g. re-do Mars, Coke, Porsche, iPod, Sony)
- Self-portrait with distorted face (smiling, laughing, pulling a face etc.)
- Design a new outfit for yourself
- Design a new watch with a colourful strap
- Natural landscape – draw plants, trees or flowers outdoors
- Write a review of an exhibition you have seen (in person or on TV)
- Figure composition – draw a group of friends, relatives or people from a photograph
- Frottage – fill a sheet with pencil rubbings of different textures
- Collage – create a portrait from pieces of photos you have cut out from magazines
- Design jewellery for yourself, a friend or a famous person
- Fantasy & imagination – draw a scene from a dream
Using sketchbooks to practice skills and create work out of school is incredibly important. If you produce ANY good quality art outside of class, bring it in to show your teacher and it will count as homework (and might get a praise slip!).
Check with your teacher if you don't understand what is involved in any of these tasks - some will be new to you!!
